The MASK

I wear this mask to hide the real me
No one is ready for what they'll see
The words lay heavy upon my heart
Feeling suffocated, with no where to start
But I never remove the mask
I'll keep it on
I'm not ready for the ostracism
Not ready for the pain
Not ready to face the facts
Deep down inside I know the truth
I try my best to fight it and say this can't be
But I never remove the mask
I continue to walk along with my head held low
Eyes averted from the suns glow
The topic haunts my very thought
I try my best to avoid the question  
I'm not ready for rejection
Not ready to hear the words of hate slip between your lips
So I'll continue to wear this mask until I'm ready
Until I know you have changed and become tolerable.
